Auto sales November 2024: Key numbers from Hyundai Motor India, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and others
The Indian auto industry showcased mixed performance in November 2024, with some segments delivering robust growth while others faced challenges. Passenger vehicle sales maintained their momentum, driven by SUVs and electric vehicles, while commercial vehicles and tractors struggled with subdued demand.

Here’s a breakdown of the highlights from the month:

Hyundai Motor India

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) achieved total sales of 61,252 units in November 2024, comprising 48,246 domestic sales and 13,006 exports.

SUVs continued to dominate domestic sales, contributing 68.8% to the tally. Notably, HMIL recorded its highest-ever rural contribution of 22.1%, reflecting strong penetration into India’s hinterlands.

The innovative Hy-CNG Duo technology also boosted CNG vehicle sales, which accounted for 14.4% of the total.

JSW MG Motor India

JSW MG Motor India reported a 20% rise in wholesales, reaching 6,019 units in November 2024 compared to the same month last year.

The company’s electric crossover, Windsor, led this growth with 3,144 units sold, maintaining its strong momentum for the second consecutive month.

Notably, new energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for 70% of the total monthly sales, highlighting their significant contribution to the company’s overall performance.

Escorts Kubota

Escorts Kubota faced a decline in November 2024, with total sales falling 9.4% year-on-year, totaling 8,974 units. The company sold 8,730 tractors domestically, marking an 8.1% drop from the previous year.

Exports also shrank by 39.5% to 244 units. However, during the festive months (September-November), Escorts saw a 9% rise in tractor sales, amounting to 38,554 units.

Toyota India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor India experienced 44% surge in sales, reaching 25,586 units in November 2024, up from 17,818 units last year.

This surge was largely driven by a strong demand for the company’s SUVs.

The increase marks another successful month for the automaker in India.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki led the market with total sales of 1.81 lakh units, exceeding CNBC-TV18’s estimate of 1.77 lakh units. This marked a 10.4% year-on-year (YoY) growth from 1.64 lakh units in November 2023.

Domestic sales for Maruti Suzuki grew 8.1% YoY to 1.53 lakh units, supported by a 5.3% increase in passenger vehicle sales to 1.41 lakh units.

The company’s exports surged 24.8% YoY to 28,633 units, driven by strong international demand.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors reported stable performance with total sales of 74,753 units, marginally above CNBC-TV18’s estimate of 74,200 units. This marked a slight 0.8% YoY increase from 74,172 units in November 2023. Domestic sales grew 1% YoY to 73,246 units.

However, the commercial vehicle segment witnessed a 1% YoY decline, with sales falling to 26,183 units.

TVS Motor

TVS Motor had a strong month, reporting total sales of 4.01 lakh units, surpassing market estimates of 3.87 lakh units. This represented a 10.2% YoY increase from 3.64 lakh units in November 2023. Two-wheeler sales grew 12% YoY to 3.92 lakh units, while the company’s electric vehicle sales soared 57% YoY to 26,292 units, reflecting a growing consumer shift toward electric mobility.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a 44% YoY increase in total sales to 25,586 units, up from 17,818 units in November 2023. This growth was attributed to the sustained demand for SUVs, a key pillar of Toyota’s Indian portfolio. Similarly, MG Motor India posted total sales of 6,019 units, up 20% YoY, with electric vehicles driving the growth. The Windsor Electric Crossover alone accounted for 3,144 units, highlighting the increasing popularity of EVs in India.
