After 11 years as Lamborghini’s flagship, the Italian supercar maker revealed its replacement for the Aventador, which it dubbed the Revuelto. It’s the automaker’s first ultra-high-performance plug-in hybrid, which pairs its iconic V12 with a trio of electric motors to achieve maximum performance potential and also improve its green credentials.
Here’s what makes the 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto special.
Combines Naturally Aspirated V12 With Three Electric Motors
Just like all the other ultra-luxury performance car brands, Lambo has set a course for electrification. Ironically, Lamborghini is famous for building huge, naturally aspirated V12 engines for its flagship cars. And so, the automaker has added three electric motors and a battery to augment the V12 and turn it into a plug-in hybrid.
With a midship-mounted V12 engine that only sends power to the rear wheels, two electric motors are needed to drive the Revuelto’s front e-axle, while another motor is built into Lamborghini’s all-new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Pairs an Eight-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission With a V12
All mid-engined Lamborghini models from the Countach onward had their transmission in front of the engine. This is the first time the automaker has positioned the gearbox behind the engine, where it is mounted transversally, not longitudinally as before.
Interestingly, there is no reverse gear in the transmission; reversing in the Revuelto is done exclusively by electric motors. Where the gearbox used to be mounted, the manufacturer has put a 3.8 kWh lithium-ion battery to power the electric motors. This relatively small battery pack is good for only around six miles of electric driving.
The electric motor in the transmission also acts as an integrated starter-generator, so it not only spins the big V12 into life but also charges the vehicle’s batteries.
Electrification Elevates Revuelto’s Performance
The Revuelto’s 6.5-liter V12 alone cranks out 820 horsepower and 535 lb-ft of torque. The two electric motors in the front add 148 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque each. The transmission-mounted electric motor adds another 148 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque.
In total, the peak system output for the 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto is 1,001 horsepower and 793 lb-ft of torque. The plug-in hybrid powertrain can take the hypercar from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 2.5 seconds. The automaker says the Revuelto’s top speed is 217 miles per hour, exactly the same as the Aventador S.
Design Language Gets Spacey
The new Revuelto was designed with the future in mind, yet it still draws inspiration from the supercars that came before it. Its sleek profile and sharp angles make it look like it can cut through the air with little resistance. Lamborghini says the Revuelto is inspired by aerospace design with its sculpted surfaces, shapes, and lines.
This design language is carried over inside, with a high-tech cabin adorned with suede, leather, and other fancy-looking materials. A new infotainment system provides a full immersion experience for both the driver and the passenger.
Revised Infotainment and Advanced Driver Assistance
Three displays make up Lamborghini’s completely revised infotainment system. It allows for significant personalization and customization capabilities that make being aboard the Revuelto an immersive experience. A two-finger swipe motion can send driver-side infotainment content over to the passenger.
Also integrated into the Revuelto is a new suite of advanced driver assistance systems that can help prevent crashes. This includes Autonomous Emergency Braking, Active Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Lamborghini Revuelto Prepares Us for Next-Gen Supercars
The Revuelto future-proofs Lamborghini’s iconic V12 by making it the heart of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It enhances the vehicle’s performance to hypercar status, while also reducing its emissions (by up to 30 percent compared to an Aventador) and giving it meaningful all-electric range.
A new-age design language alongside intuitive technology and safety features make the 2024 Revuelto a supremely desirable dream car for any automotive enthusiast.
